Johan Lundgren, previously the deputy CEO of TUI, has been named the next CEO of the European ultra-low-cost carrier EasyJet. He will officially take on this role on December 1. This decision was made after EasyJet announced on July 17th that current CEO Carolyn McCall would be stepping down. McCall will officially step down on November 30th, but will remain with EasyJet until the end of the year to assist with the transition. Lundgren will be joining the second-largest discount carrier in Europe, behind Ryanair, as it continues to expand its operations. Recently, EasyJet acquired 25 Airbus narrowbody aircraft from the now bankrupt Air Berlin and is also in the running to acquire parts of Alitalia, which is currently going through bankruptcy proceedings.
