UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Calls for Ceasefire in Lebanon

London, UK – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made an urgent plea for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, following an escalation in violence between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Starmer said: "I urge all parties to stop the violence and step back from the brink of a wider conflict."

The Prime Minister’s comments came after a week of intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which has resulted in dozens of casualties and widespread destruction in southern Lebanon.

"The people of Lebanon have suffered enough," Starmer said. "They deserve peace and stability, not more war and bloodshed."

The Prime Minister called on the international community to support a ceasefire and to work towards a lasting solution to the conflict in Lebanon.

"We must all work together to end the violence and bring about a just and lasting peace for the people of Lebanon," he said.
